In A New Piece (of My Heart), Olivia Court Mesa examines our capacity for repair, exploring both physical and psychological responses to the darkness within humanity.
The work brings together five characters, each carrying their own heartache, navigating personal and collective trauma. Through athletic, interconnected movement, the dancers build and dismantle in a continuous search for renewal. As they create “memorials” and shifting constellations, they explore architectural possibilities for reconstructing what has been broken.
This work captures subtle transformations that unfold as they connect and support one another in unexpected ways, weaving through shadows and light to reveal resilience and quiet hope.
By journey’s end, nothing remains as it was, nor as they imagined it could be—but it is new.
